Due to the confidential nature of the assignment, this design cannot be discussed in too much detail.
Usually a kitesurfer has to choose between two types of bindings; boots or pads. Boots offer a lot of stability, while pads are more like slippers. Although most kite surfers appreciate the sturdiness of boots, the majority still opt for pads. In a crash, pads are safer because the feet are not attached to the board.
Kolea is a combination of boots and pads. A removable heel strap allows the user to choose between the freedom and security of pads and the firmness of boots. In addition, Kolea has a safety mechanism that helps prevent knee injuries, which are the most common injuries in this sport.
The Assignment
The client (confidentiality requested) is specialized in developing and producing kiteboards. In the past, the client has developed a new type of pads. The assignment consists of designing the next version of these pads, with the following recommendations:
•  Develop a safety mechanism that helps prevent knee injuries.
•  Take into account the ergonomics of both young and old and both male and female.
