ABOUT THE 777 SPORTR
The 777 SportR is a fast, durable and sporty boat, targeted at the Scandinavian market.
One of the factors differentiating the 777 SportR from other VanVossen tenders is the big sporty window. The window amplifies the tender's sporty looks, which fit well with the large amount of engine power the tender can be configured with (max. 300 HP). Apart from looking good, the window offers the users protection from the wind and, since sales are targeted at Scandinavia, this is a very welcome feature.
The driver(s) sit exactly above the tender's center of gravity, so that they are affected as little as possible by pitching movements. In addition, the tender is equipped with shock-absorbing seats, so that sailing remains comfortable even at high speed and through rough waters. By keeping enough space between the shock-absorbing seats and the rear bench, there is room to fish from the tender, which is often done by the target group. The shock-absorbing seats can be rotated 180° to create a cozy sitting area with the rear bench.
During the design process, the ergonomics of the 777 SportR where of the utmost importance to ensure the tender can be used comfortably and safely by as many people as possible.
THE ASSIGNMENT
VanVossen Tenders regularly receives customers who are looking for an aluminum tender that is suitable for the larger engine capacities (up to approx. 300 HP). With such a tender it is possible to sail at sea and to achieve high speeds (up to 70 km/h). These customers usually want to use the tender to sail on coastal waters, often in the Mediterranean or Scandinavian waters. To respond to this demand, VanVossen Tenders has recently added a new series of tenders to its catalog; the "SportR" series. At the start of this assignment, only the "600 SportR" has been developed within this series. With a length of six meters, this tender is more of a proof of concept and not really tailored for sailing at rough coastal waters. My graduation assignment consisted of designing the next tender within the SportR series with a length of 7.77 meters; the "777 SportR". With this length, it leaves the proof of concept phase to be a tender really tailored towards conquering the rough coastal waters.
